CookCycle Terms of Use

Last updated: 26 October 2026

These terms apply when you use CookCycle, the meal-planning app made and run by Jakub Petelen, a sole trader based in the Netherlands ("we", "us"). Please read them: by creating an account, you agree to them. How we handle your personal data is explained in the CookCycle Privacy Policy.

Apple's standard licence agreement for apps (the Licensed Application End User License Agreement) also applies to CookCycle. Where these terms say more, they add to it.

1. Who can use CookCycle

You need to be at least 16 and create an account. An account is for one person: keep your sign-in details to yourself, as you're responsible for what's done with your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else is using it.

2. Free use and CookCycle Pro

  • Free: you can use the recipe library, your pantry, grocery lists and your own recipes for free, and try each Pro feature once: one planned week, one scan, one recipe import and one AI recipe.
  • CookCycle Pro unlocks planning every week, scans, imports and AI recipes as often as you like (within a fair daily limit, see section 4), and plans that aim for your calorie target. It's a subscription, monthly or yearly, bought through Apple's App Store. The price and what's included are shown before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm.
  • Renewal: the subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you turn off automatic renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Free trial: if a free trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription at its end unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. You can get a trial once.
  • Price changes: if the price of your subscription changes, Apple tells you in advance and, where required, asks for your agreement. If you don't agree, the subscription ends at the end of the current period.
  • Refunds and cancellation rights are handled by Apple, under Apple's terms, including the right of withdrawal consumers in the EU have for App Store purchases. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Deleting your CookCycle account doesn't cancel a Pro subscription: cancel it in your App Store settings too.

3. Your content

What you add to CookCycle (recipes, ingredients, pantry items, plans, lists) stays yours, and only you can see it. You give us permission to store, copy and process it only as needed to run CookCycle for you. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account (apart from routine backups, which are replaced over time).

You're responsible for what you add. Imported recipes are saved for your own personal use: the AI rewrites the method in its own words, but the original recipe belongs to its author, so don't republish it or share it as your own.

4. AI features

Scanning photos, importing recipes and creating recipes use AI, only after you've agreed to it in the app.

  • AI can be wrong. It can misread a photo, miss or invent an ingredient, or suggest an amount, time or temperature that's off. The app shows you every scan and recipe to check before saving; always check a recipe yourself before you cook it.
  • Recipes created with AI are labelled "Written by AI".
  • Use the AI features only for what they're for: reading food from photos, importing recipes and creating recipes. Don't try to make the AI do something else, reveal how it's instructed, or produce content that's unlawful, harmful or not yours to share. Our AI provider's safety systems may refuse a request; the app then tells you it couldn't help with it.
  • To keep the service fair and affordable, the AI features have daily limits.

5. Food, nutrition and allergies

  • Calories and nutrition are estimates for information only, calculated from public databases or taken from the recipe's website. They aren't medical or dietary advice. If you have a medical condition or special dietary needs, follow the advice of a doctor or dietitian.
  • Allergies: CookCycle hides recipes that contain the allergens you tell it about, as far as it knows each recipe's ingredients. It can't guarantee a recipe is free of an allergen: ingredient lists can be incomplete (especially imported or AI-written ones), products can contain allergens you wouldn't expect, and kitchens and packaging can cross-contaminate. If you have an allergy, always check the ingredients and product labels yourself.
  • Food safety: cook food through, store it properly, and use your own judgement about whether food is still good. "Use soon" labels and the planner's sense of how long food keeps are general estimates, not food safety advice.

6. Fair use

Use CookCycle for your own cooking and planning, and don't:

  • break the law, or use CookCycle to store or share unlawful content;
  • try to get into other people's accounts or data, or into our systems;
  • disrupt CookCycle, or overload it with automated requests, scraping or bots;
  • copy, resell or rebuild the app or its recipe library;
  • get around the free limits or the subscription, for example with multiple accounts.

7. Reporting illegal content

CookCycle stores what users add, privately. If you come across content in CookCycle that you believe is illegal, report it to support@cookcycle.app with: where it is, why you believe it's illegal, your name and email address, and a statement that you're reporting in good faith. We look at every report carefully and without bias, act on it promptly, and tell you what we decided. Authorities can use the same address, in English or Dutch.

If we restrict or remove content or an account, we tell the person affected why and how they can object. You can object to any such decision by replying to our message; we'll review it properly.

8. Ending your use

You can stop using CookCycle and delete your account in the app at any time (Menu → Profile → Delete account).

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms or the law. We'll tell you why, unless the law doesn't allow it. Only Apple can refund App Store purchases: if we close your account without good reason, we'll support your refund request to Apple.

9. The service

We work to keep CookCycle running, accurate and secure, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may improve, change or remove features. If we change something significant you pay for, we'll tell you in advance, and you can cancel your subscription. If we ever stop CookCycle, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and help you get your data out.

10. Our content and other services

The app, its design and its recipe library belong to us; you may use them through CookCycle for your own cooking. Nutrition data comes from USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org, under the Open Database License). Recipe websites you import from, Apple and other services you use with CookCycle have their own terms.

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under Dutch and EU law, or our liability for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential damage, or for damage that comes from relying on AI-generated content, nutrition estimates or allergy filtering without checking them as described above.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using CookCycle, cancel your subscription and delete your account before then.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you live in another EU country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of that country. Please contact us first if something's wrong: most problems can be solved quickly. If we can't solve it together, you can go to the competent court in the Netherlands or in the country where you live.
